Ever since the last year the Networking skillset has been helping me improve my social skills, because I am very bad at talking in front of a large group of people or if I do talk, it ends up being very awkward for all involved. I tend to be on the shy side when it comes to interacting with people who I don’t know or know very little. Last year Mo Lea helped me to overcome slightly the fear of talking in front of an audience, though some of that fear is still present at some times.

This year we began the skillset with an improvised interview type scenario to look at our body language. We were asked two questions and filmed while answering them, then played back without sound to focus more on the body language, hand movements, eye contact, etc.

We then looked at soft skills. What kind of a person are we – bossy, passive, etc.

Soft skills is a term often associated with a person’s “EQ” (Emotional Intelligence Quotient), which is the cluster of personality traits that characterize one’s relationships with other people.

We filled a form with positive and negative traits that we think we possess.

I have missed the artist statement class and am yet to write mine up.

We had Richard Farquhar from the main campus to speak to us about CV’s. What is a good CV? What is a bad CV?  We also looked at some Creative CV’s. Richard stressed that the CV is fifty  per cent of out employment. If it is good we might be considered  for an interview.

Another major thing we talked about was LinkedIn accounts and how important it is for us to have one. When he showed us all the features of this social media and how in depth research on people it can do we were astonished. It is a very powerful tool for making business connections.

And the last class we did another improvised interview. We split into two groups ( the two classes). First we walk in, greet and then answer a question and get marked on a few criteria. Then the other group does the same and we mark them.

The table above shows us in the beginning. Personally I think I have improved since the beginning of these classes.
